We have witnessed history folks. America’s 45th President got sworn in and many reacted well, like children. While trying to brandish signs with slogans like “not my president” and my personal favorite, “Love Trumps Hate”, the protesters got ugly and did something that no one who understands democracy or free speech should do. Destroy things and attack people.
Peaceful protesting is a protected right. You are allowed in law to protest all you want. The minute you destroy or attack someone, then it is no longer a peaceful protest but a violent mob rioting.
We saw this on the news here in Canada and sadly we also had women proudly announce here that they were marching in Washington to protest and even proclaim “not my president”. Yes, there was even a news article opinion piece, where the writer stated this. Not realizing how idiotic she sounded by saying that.
The message of “Love Beats Hate” is lost the moment you smash a window, start a fire, or attack another human being. You are not loving people spreading a message. You become the thing you most revile. Hateful, mean, violent human beings.
Thankfully, the police in Washington did the right thing and now those protesters are facing 10 years in prison and a pretty hefty fine. Let this be a lesson to everyone. Destroying private property, and attacking people in the name of “Love” is not very lovable and the violence breeds violence. You get what you deserve.
